Hailing from Toulouse in France, Scarecrow are going where few have dared before by combining hip-hop with early blues. Using the two differing elements to produce the same groove, this bold and fresh group of musicians mixes dobros with scratching vinyls, loops guitar licks to accompany their beats, and delivers their rhymes in both English and French. They will be performing in NYC at the Rockwood Music Hall on Aug. 6. Some will remember Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf’s disgust when forced by their labels to mix their music with psychedelic rock in the ‘60s; heaven knows what the blues purists will think of this one.
