This month, the 2013 Vans Warped Tour will make its way to the Tri-State Area, with appearances at the PNC Bank Arts Center July 7, Susquehanna Bank Center July 12, and Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum July 13. Hoards of sponsors, vendors and merchandise booths will line the doors, adding to the clamor of the multi-stage festival. Daily schedules will be posted on a large, inflatable billboard near the entrances. Band signings and acoustic performances will be happening throughout the days as well. Musical instruction effort Bandhappy will also be hosting demos with members of the groups on the tour.
This year’s lot includes many newcomers to the tour along with several veteran bands. With a roster incorporating something for everyone, if you can take 12 hours in direct sun, the Warped Tour appears to have it all covered. Out of the multitude of performances, here are 25 talented acts set to appear. Ranging from Americana to hardcore metal, this event allows for entertainment for a music fan of any kind. Allison Weiss
Brooklyn-native singer-songwriter Allison Weiss will join the cast of characters that fill the roster for this year’s Warped Tour. This DIY artist has utilized two noteworthy Kickstarter campaigns to promote her folk pop sound that was captured on the I Was An Island EP and then again on her 2013 full-length, Say What You Mean. Just this year, she joined Lou Reed on tour as a member of his backing band. Allison Weiss’ latest video release through No Sleep is entitled “Making It Up.”
American Opera
New York-based Americana folk musician John Bee fronts American Opera. This artist has been nonstop touring in recent years to support his previous EPs. Although currently unsigned, he has big plans to release an LP in the not-so-distant future. “Broken Roads” is his latest single that he has just put out an acoustic version of.
Architects
Architects, originally from Brighton, UK, have gained a reputation for progressive, technical metal musicianship. The group’s fifth album, Daybreaker, was put out last year, and the guys are still playing shows off its success. Architects are fresh off a performance on the main stage at Download Festival and still have this year’s Warped Tour to look forward to. In past tour cycles, this bunch has played alongside Enter Shikari, Bring Me The Horizon, The Devil Wears Prada and Parkway Drive.
August Burns Red
This seasoned metal act is on the brink of a new album drop, with their 2013 effort dubbed Rescue & Restore. August Burns Red have acclaimed records under their belt such as 2011’s Constellations, and even took the risk of creating a holiday album titled Sleddin’ Hill. Great expectations lie ahead of this group upon their arrival at each Warped Tour stop this time around. “Provision” is one of the first singles off of their latest, Rescue & Restore.
Austin Lucas
Punk-folk pioneer Austin Lucas was born out of a musical bloodline. The musician’s father is Bob Lucas, a songwriter and producer whose most well-known work is with Alison Krauss. This young artist has blended two genres that appear opposite at a glance into something that makes listening worthwhile. Austin Lucas is no virgin to traveling festivals, having just been a part of The Revival Tour, Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown Tour and SXSW. His own headlining tour is soon-to-be announced.
Beartooth
Currently with Red Bull Records, Beartooth are a Columbus, OH-native metalcore outfit. “I Have A Problem” is the popular track that is available from the band, and they have plans to put out an EP this summer. The group will play the Warped Tour fresh off performing on the main stage at the Skate And Surf Festival.
Big D And The Kids Table
An experienced, dedicated bunch of individuals, Big D And The Kids Table are a Boston ensemble with a knack for ska-style punk. Stomp And Stroll was released last month out of funding from Kickstarter. This accomplishment is the culmination of the band’s do-it-yourself approach. This group has plans to distribute a second record in the near future incorporating more experimental musical styles.
Bring Me The Horizon
RCA’s Bring Me The Horizon hail from Sheffield, UK. Their 2013 effort, Sempiternal, has been met with much praise, with “Shadow Moses” being the first single from it. The guys have played the Australian Soundwave Festival, Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park in Germany earlier this year, and will perform at Warped Tour all summer long. Bring Me The Horizon have been confirmed for Reading & Leeds Festivals and will headline a tour throughout the United Kingdom along with Crossfaith.
Charlie Simpson
English singer-songwriter Charlie Simpson has been in the industry for a while now. Signed to Nusic Sounds, the artist has plans for a second full-length to be released later on this year as a follow-up to 2012’s Young Pilgrim. The multi-instrumentalist alt rock performer endorses PRS Guitars.
Chiodos
The Razor & Tie supported hardcore outfit Chiodos have plans for touring and recording throughout the year. The band has come off the Kerrang! Tour in the UK and will continue on playing live into the summer on this year’s Warped Tour. Fronted once more by Craig Owens, the Michigan bunch have announced that a new full-length will be dropped in 2014.
For The Foxes
Barnegat, NJ locals For The Foxes formed only in 2008, and are signed today with Hopeless. The Revolution is the most up-to-date EP from the pop-indie outfit that is available now. For more information on the band, head to facebook.com/forthefoxes.
Gin Wigmore
New Zealand-born singer-songwriter Gin Wigmore has an on stage persona that is very unique. This artist draws upon blues, rock, and even jazz musicians of the past for her smoky, rough-around-the-edges sound. Her 2011 release, Gravel And Wine, received much acclaim in her native country on Island Records Australia.
Goldfinger
Years of performing experience lay behind punk experts Goldfinger, who have recently put out a new single, “Am I Deaf?” The band is known for incorporating their political stances and support of animal rights into their music. The L.A.-based bunch blend surf and ska musical tones into their no-frills production. These seasoned summertime tour performers are sure to deliver for the fans of the genre.
