South Jersey’s River City Extension recently teamed up with producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine) for their second full-length album, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Your Anger, and the combo appears to be more than appropriate. Joe Michelini’s buzzed drawl is that of your new confessional (outlandishly talented) bar buddy, spitting earnest notes full with desire and self-deprecation, and the band—employing sounds like cello, banjo, and pedal steel—flips restlessly between hushed textures and blasts of folk punk clamor. The eight-piece ensemble will appear at the Mercury Lounge in Manhattan on Dec. 12, with tickets for $13 in advance or $15 at the doors.
