What can one expect from a man named Xris SMack!, who capitalizes both the S and M in his surname and ends his name with an exclamation point? Through his SMack! and Stimulate series, SMack! has been merging New York City’s fetish community with the gothic rock scene at monthly parties at several venues since 1996. His SMack! events can become fetish play parties, and his Stimulate events feature live performances by musicians in the industrial, electro and horror rock genres.
SMack! celebrated his ninth anniversary as an event promoter over two Friday nights at Dröm. The Sept. 1 event hosted concerts by God Module, Blakk Glass, new band Midnight Myth (featuring Scott Denman of Die Sektor) and producer, Visions in Black. The second part of the anniversary celebration was on Sept. 8, with Aurelio Voltaire performing a solo acoustic set, Bella Morte and Noir (featuring Athan Maroulis, of underground bands Spahn Ranch and Black Tape for a Blue Girl).
