ETHAN BROSH BAND—Suffern, NY
This Friday night (11/25), the Ethan Brosh Band was added to the Joe Lynn Turner show at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ featuring my band Rahway and Fragile Sky. Needless to say, my interest was piqued, and I had to check Ethan Brosh and his band. I was surprised to hear that this was a full instrumental band. Steve Bello and Angel Vivaldi, some competition just walked in! Or we can have our own NJ-G3 featuring Steve Bello, Angel Vivaldi and Ethan Brosh. I should be a concert promoter! This kid really shreds! I got to hear a few tracks off of his latest CD, Live the Dream, and it rocks the way Steve Vai and Joe Satriani used to back in their “heyday.” Ethan actually reminds me of Vai more than Satriani. The CD’s title track, “Knock on Wood,” “Rude Awakening” featuring Dave Ellefson from Megadeth, and “Space Invaders” were all standouts on the CD.
Ethan Brosh is a young guitar player who leads the Ethan Brosh Band as a national touring act. According to his bio, in addition to recording and touring with his own music, Ethan sometimes steps into playing for high-profile musicians as a session guitar player who can replicate other people’s music in the most accurate way while adding lots of energy to it on stage. Ethan is a native of Suffern, NY, but spent his childhood years in Israel, which is where Ethan discovered Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, awakening his love of music. At the age of 12, he developed a taste for playing guitar and started taking up classical guitar lessons. Soon enough, he picked up the electric guitar. Originally influenced by bands like Iron Maiden and other groups of that era, Ethan gradually grew into writing his own music. He would go on to study at Berklee College of Music, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in songwriting and became a part-time teacher there. After writing music for several years, Ethan released his debut CD, Out of Oblivion, in 2009 featuring guests like George Lynch, Greg Howe and Mike Mangini.
In 2014, Ethan followed up his debut with Live the Dream under Carmine Appice’s Rocker Records label, with a couple songs featuring Dave Ellefson from Megadeth. Between 2013 and 2015, Ethan, along with his bandmates, guitarist Nate Montalvo, bassist Giorgio Mongelli, and drummer Dan Whitelock, toured with a great number of acts like Yngwie Malmsteen, Jake E. Lee, Marty Friedman, and Michael Schenker. Ethan Brosh and crew have a third record in the making, but for now, catch him at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ this Friday night with Joe Lynn Turner, Rahway and Fragile Sky. NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:
My bud, drummer Danny LaVarco from the band Ender, recently reached out to let me know that his band will be releasing their new single and music video, “Cataclysm.” I only got a little snippet, but I can tell you already that my teeth feel like someone punched me there after listening to the clip of “Cataclysm.” I can’t wait to hear the rest of it. Ender won’t be hitting Jersey again until January 14, when they play at The Blue Room in Secaucus, NJ. For more on Ender, visit Facebook.com/EnderMetalNJ.
Speaking of The Blue Room, my brother Tim McMurtrie and his hardcore band Full Scale Riot will be releasing their new CD, Empower, this Friday (11/25). The CD features the songs “Hold You to the Fire,” “Game Face,” and “The Day I Die,” and they are mean and brutal! The CD also features a guest guitar spot by my bro Marc Rizzo from Soulfly. If you remember, Timmy’s also responsible for bringing us popular projects like M.O.D. and Murder League All-Stars, but Full Scale Riot is one project that I’m glad that he brought back. Full Scale Riot will be celebrating the CD’s release with a party at where else? The Blue Room in Secaucus, NJ, this Saturday night (11/26) with performances from Homicidal, Me With Creeps, Ego Destroys, Robots and Monsters and Silence Equals Death. For more info on Full Scale Riot, visit Facebook.com/FullScaleRiot.
And finally, it’s Thanksgiving week, and that means one last shameless plug for me and my band Rahway! We’ll be playing at the Starland Ballroom in Slayerville, NJ on Thanksgiving Eve (11/23) with our brothers Brand Of Julez as we open for Buckcherry. Then, as I said earlier, the night after Thanksgiving, or Black Friday (11/25), we will be opening for the legendary Joe Lynn Turner, former singer of Rainbow and Deep Purple, at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ. Also performing will be the Ethan Brosh Band and Fragile Sky. For tickets to any of these shows this week, contact my band Rahway at RahwayBand.com.
That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!
Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
