Canadian electro-pop duo Junior Boys have been crafting synth–heavy pop tunes since 1999. Since releasing their debut album, Last Exit, in 2004, the duo, which consists of Jeremy Greenspan and Johnny Dark, have taken their time releasing music working on side projects in the interim. They just released Big Black Coat, their fifth album and their first since 2011’s It’s All True, to widespread critical acclaim. The album takes its cues from the electronic music of the past, specifically the Detroit techno and Chicago house of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, while still managing to sound fresh and modern. Lead singles “Over It” and “Big Black Coat” impressively straddle the line between introspective and high-energy. Junior Boys will be performing at Union Transfer on March 30 and Webster Hall on March 31.
