Cass McCombs is one of those artists that perpetually sounds so fresh, it’s easy forget how long they’ve been making music. Since 2002, McCombs has been crafting quality psychedelic power-pop in the vein of everyone from The Eagles to Devendra Banhart. In addition to releasing eight full-length albums in that time, he’s toured with heavy hitters like Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, John Cale, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, and recently finished a co-headlining tour alongside true indie rock veterans, the Meat Puppets. He’s also managed to find time to do production work for artists as varied as Vampire Weekend, Adele, and Phish’s Mike Gordon. His most recent collection, A Folk Set Apart: Rarities, B-Sides, & Space Junk ETC, contains songs from that entire 13-year span, some of which McCombs will be performing at The Bowery Ballroom on Jan. 7.
