To say Glen Rock, NJ’s Deaf Rhino have had a good year is almost an understatement. In addition to releasing their well-received debut album, Dirt Rust Chaos, in May, the four-piece has headlined two sold-out shows at the famous Maxwell’s Tavern in Hoboken, and they’ll be playing a third headlining gig there Dec. 19. Although the band’s artwork and heavy guitar tones call to mind the stoner-rock riffage of Queens Of The Stone Age, their songs have same bounce as early 2000s garage rockers like Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes with just a pinch of Pearl Jam’s trademark post-grunge-pop sound on tracks like “Water” and “Don’t Believe What You Heard.” Like those first two shows at Maxwell’s, this one is expected to sell out. If it does, you can also catch them at Mexicali Live in Teaneck on Dec. 30.
