With new albums from Sleater-Kinney, Ex Hex, Mourn, and The Julie Ruin all having come out in the past year, it’s safe to stay we’ve arrived in yet another golden age of female-led punk bands that pack a punch. Now it seems we can add Brooklyn newcomers BOYTOY to that list. On their debut album, Grackle, the songs are catchy, the guitars are loud, and everyone involved generally seems like they’re having a great time. Founding members/guitarists Saara Untracht-Oakner and Glenn Van Dyke genuinely give girl power rock veterans like Kathleen Hanna and Mary Timony a run for their money. BOYTOY will be rocking out at The Saint in Asbury Park on Dec. 16.
