Just take a moment and picture yourself going to a concert, where you’re actually encouraged to use your smartphone. On Aug. 19, electronic music pioneer Howard Jones will be bringing his multimedia project, fittingly named Engage, to New York City at the Gramercy Theater. Engage recently performed in the U.K. and L.A., and was entirely fan-funded by PledgeMusic. The project involves the specially-commissioned visuals with electronic music, thus producing a creative and interactive live show. Engage is inspired by a highly diverse group of musical genres, such as electronica, contemporary classical, and pop, fused with sensational visual and literary arts like ballet and modern dance; all of which combined provokes in-depth impressionism and artistic reasoning. The Engage audience is invited to participate via a specially-designed smartphone app, customized clothing and fluorescent make-up. Thought up by Howard Jones and created by Simon Fletcher of spacestream.com, the Engage app can be downloaded on both the iPhone and Android. Howard Jones will also be playing at Daryl’s House in Pawling, NY on Aug. 30.
