The Mavericks, from Miami, led by Raul Malo, a Cuban-American, may be marketed as country, but they have more in common with Roy Orbison, the Everlys or Buddy Holly than they do with today’s homogenized “country” crap. Live, they kick it hard yet can swing and sway with such lovely ooze that you’ll swoon. This “real deal” of a band will be at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank on June 19, The Space At Westbury on June 20 and the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown on June 22. Malo can outsing anybody on the planet. His high soaring tenor can raise goosebumps.
