North Jersey Notes: Cracked Alice, Rahway, Fastride and More!

There’s an amazing show happening this Saturday night (10/26) at the Studio at Webster Hall in NYC featuring two local heavyweights in my bros Panzie* and Killcode, but it’s one of their support acts that tickled my fancy this week. The name of the band is Cracked Alice, and I find it pretty weird that I’ve never heard of these guys before because they’re pretty awesome! After hearing the songs “Burn,” “Fissure” and “Hangman,” I found myself wanting to hear more from this group. Singer Matthew Paul’s voice is absolutely amazing.

After hearing a few rough demos of Paul’s voice through a mutual friend, guitarist Lynxx hunted him down to get him involved with his new project, Cracked Alice. After one jam session, the duo knew that they might have something special there. Needing a bass player, Matthew quickly reached out to his former room/bandmate C.E. Cognetti to play bass, while Lynxx recruited fellow underground NYC musician and drummer Luis Cambero to round out the newly formed Cracked Alice. The quartet quickly developed a sound that combined their musicianship with a wide array of musical influences.

Cracked Alice released their debut EP, Contents Under Pressure, back in April, and they’ve been playing all over the place supporting the EP. It’s no wonder the guys from Killcode and Panzie* asked these guys to share a stage with them. Check them out for yourself at reverbnation.com/crackedalice.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

After being banned from Starland Ballroom for the last few years, my brothers from Rahway have been invited back in April 2014 to open for the mighty Kix, and they’ll be returning with a few tricks up their sleeves. They’ll have a brand new CD out and they’ll debuting a brand new singer. It turns out the boys have parted ways with singer Steve Visconti, but say that you’ll have to wait until April to find out who his replacement is. For more info on Rahway, log onto RahwayBand.com.

My new bud, Anthony Sciascia, who used to play drums for New York City’s Mother, has found a new home behind the kit for Philadelphia’s Fastride. I was only able to hear a song called “Windowpain” so far and I have to say, they sound like a really good no-frills rock band. It’s no wonder Anthony is playing with these guys. Check Fastride out at facebook.com/pages/Fastride/382641671857754.

And finally, my bros from Scars Of Envy are looking for a bass player. I recently ran into singer Ethan Murphy and he told me they just want someone who rocks! He says the new songs are awesome and he can’t wait to play them out live. They just need someone to hold down that bottom end on stage! Give Scars Of Envy a listen at facebook.com/scarsofenvy and see if you have what it takes to play bass for them. If you do, then you can contact them there as well.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
