Van-Anh Vo, known by her stage name Vanessa Vo, is a multi-instrumentalist from Vietnam. She specializes in playing native drums and zithers, like the 17-string dan tranh, and uses her music to encapsulate Viet culture and her feelings about the post-war world in which she grew up. A versatile collaborator as well as a composer, she combines her instruments with those of many other types of music, and will be releasing an album of original pieces in September. Her unique and rare sound can be heard for free on July 26 at 7:30 p.m., when she will be playing the Damrosch Park Bandshell with the Kronos Quartet as part of Lincoln Center Out Of Doors.
