My bro Tom Herres from Scarlet Carson recently posted something on Facebook stating that he was asked to go on tour and play bass for a band called Dive. But wait! Tommy, you’re a singer now! Leave the bass playing to bass players! Who’s going to sing for Scarlet Carson? Tommy says that a “super-surprise” fill-in will be doing the SC shows while he’s on the road. Anyway, I had to give this group Dive a quick listen and apparently, they have a record deal already. Why have I never heard of this outfit from Clifton, NJ? I gave their songs “Fall Away,” “Last Call Romance” and my favorite track “Change” a listen, and it’s no wonder Tommy is playing with them. They remind me so much of Scarlet Carson. They’re a great rock band with cool guitar riffs, amazing melodies, and awesome vocals. I’m still baffled as to how I’ve never heard of them.
The boys from Dive formed back in 2004, but they were in no rush to make things happen. They decided to take the time to hone in on their craft while playing local clubs and bars on the music scene. In 2007, they released their self-produced CD, The Truth About Us, which gained them much attention and in 2009, signed with Phase One/MadRock. In May 2010, Dive’s debut CD, Picture Perfect, was released through Sony RED and is currently available on iTunes, Amazon and in stores at FYE, Hot Topic and Barnes & Noble. Later in 2010, Dive became one of the first acts to ever play the new MetLife Stadium alongside Bon Jovi and Train. According to their bio, the band is made up of singer Jonny Dive, guitarists Evan Canova and Jeff Moczydlowski, bassist Martin Delahaye, who since has been replaced by Tommy Herres, and drummer Will Ferguson.
Back in March 2012, Dive released The Acoustic EP, which featured four songs from previous albums stripped down and a brand new track called “Goodbye.” The Acoustic EP is also available on iTunes and everywhere music is sold digitally! Dive are currently putting the finishing touches on their third full-length and have recently embarked on a U.S. tour with my bro Tommy Herres from Scarlet Carson on bass. NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:
One of my favorite rock promotions out of NYC, Gotham Rocks is celebrating their fifth anniversary on June 8 with a show at Irving Plaza. Over the past five years, Tech-9 Music, also known as Gotham Rocks and No Mercy Metal, has staged hundreds of shows. This Saturday, they will celebrate with a gala event featuring five bands from the NYC area like Charetta, who will be releasing their new CD Apocalypse this week, Woods Of Arden, Machine Elves, The Amatory Murder, and ISpaceWalkSometimes. The official after-party begins upstairs at Irving Plaza immediately following the show. This is one event that will be hard to miss! For more info, log onto gothamrocks.net.
Dave Incognito recently emailed a new song that his band InDisguise had recorded during pre-production for their extremely long-awaited debut CD, Ashes Divide. I swear Dave must be taking a chapter out of Chinese Democracy. Anyway, the song is called “Ghost,” and I have to say that it might be the best song he has ever sent me from any of his projects. The music was nice and ballsy, his vocals were strong and diverse with screams that he pulled from his death metal days, and Jay Prussack’s guitar solo was tasty. I hate admitting this, but bravo to Dave and the boys from InDisguise! Check out “Ghost” at youtu.be/K4tN1k8qgHE.
And finally, my pals Joe and Crystal Cattano from Aarius Studios in Old Bridge are at it again! They recently released their latest installment of their reality tv show Project: American Studio on YouTube. The synopsis of the show is that Joe and Crystal put together a dream team of professionals, including yours truly, to help a local act rise to the next level with the right marketing, recording, and imaging. The band featured in this particular episode is my bros, Lower The Veil. You have to check this show out! It’s pretty good and I come in at around 9:31. Take a look at youtu.be/Z_IGYOlI420.
That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!
Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
