I was recently turned on to a band out of my neck of the woods that I was totally unaware of. When I say my neck of the woods, I mean my old stomping grounds of Maywood, NJ, and I’m talking about a band called Seconds To Impact. I happened to see a link for them on a friend’s Facebook page and decided to give them a listen since they were so close to home, and I have to say that singer Alexander Caraballo is absolutely fantastic. What a powerful voice this guy has! Musically, I felt Seconds To Impact were incredibly talented, but also felt it sounded a little dated. Then again, what is dated these days? I really like it! A couple of key songs to check out are “Revelation Breakthrough,” “Wake Up,” and “You Got Me Running.”
According to their bio, Seconds To Impact are a five-piece hard rock and metal band that thrives on carrying the torch that Ronnie James Dio and Black Sabbath ignited. Caraballo is a classically trained opera singer who is taking his turn to rock. Alexander, who is kind of the newest member of the band, is surrounded by four other self-taught and really talented musicians that cover the Tri-State Area, including two guitarists named Rich and Tim, a bassist named Joe, and a drummer named Tom.
The boys from Seconds To Impact released their debut CD, Bring The Night On, this past summer. The CD is an audio culmination of the band’s classic influences, and they’re currently on the scene promoting the disc. I couldn’t really tell you how they are live since I’ve never seen them, so I guess you’re going to have to check them out for yourself. NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:
My bro Ethan Murphy from Scars Of Envy has recently entered the Hard Rock Rising competition on ReverbNation with his solo track, “Same Old Story.” If Ethan advances to the next round, he can potentially battle it out live at a Hard Rock Café near us, which probably means Times Square in NYC. That’s not a bad gig, huh? Vote for Ethan now and help him into the next round by logging onto reverbnation.com/contests/1506/artist/483712.
In some sad news, my bros from Clifton’s BoundAlive have parted ways with longtime bass player Jorge Avila due to irreconcilable differences. I have to say I’ve heard both sides, and let’s just say that band drama sucks and breaks up the best groups. BoundAlive will be continuing on with a new bass player, whom they will announce in the coming weeks on facebook.com/boundalive. As for Jorge, we’ll find him in a new metal project soon! He won’t be a free agent long. Trust me!
And finally, my bro and Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo has finally released something new on the solo front for 2013. The song is called “Wicked Shattered,” and it is freaking awesome! The song is Marc Rizzo through and through. It’s now available for download on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital retail locations. For more on Rizzo, log onto reverbation.com/marcrizzo.
That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!
Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
