In 1993, songwriter and producer Paul O’Neill, guitarist Al Pitrelli, keyboardist and music engineer Robert Kinkel, and vocalist Jon Oliva came together to form progressive holiday band Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Known far and wide for their elaborate compositions which include classical music, theatricals themes, heavy metal and hard rock, they released, in 2012, the five-track EP, Dreams Of Fireflies (On A Christmas Night). This record incorporates the usual rock opera sounds of previous albums into holiday-themed ballads and grand instrumental arrangements such as the song “Winter Palace.” See Trans-Siberian Orchestra perform their show “The Lost Christmas Eve” at Prudential Center in Newark on Dec. 22.
