Six Organs Of Admittance: Up In Flames

For Ascent, the latest album by Six Organs Of Admittance, guitarist/vocalist Ben Chasny—formerly the only person in the band—has called in his Comets On Fire bandmates to jam, and jam they do. Luscious heavy psychedelia results, and the album continues to engage on the intimate folk level that Six Organs is known for, despite the distortive thrust the other players bring. They’ve aligned themselves to classic space rock in calling it Ascent, and for good reason, since those genre bounds are just some of the stylistic lines this new lineup of the band crosses with what sounds at all times like a genuine lack of concern. They’ll be counting down to launch Dec. 1 at Manhattan’s Mercury Lounge, with Blues Control supporting.
