Mike Scheidt is a guru of underground heavy. Think volume as spirit and vice versa. The YOB frontman released his first mostly-acoustic solo album, Stay Awake (words also tattooed on the backs of his hands, facing him), on June 12. Having performed solo to open a YOB show in Brooklyn leading up to their performance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest in May, Scheidt is touring with U.S. Christmas frontman Nate Hall (who also has a solo album out that’s worth hearing). July 21 they’ll be at Brooklyn’s heralded Saint Vitus Bar and Philly’s Kung Fu Necktie the next night, July 22. Join Scheidt as he brings together folk traditionalism and his own distinct brand of emotionally resonant psychedelia.
