Progressive cellist Helen Money (née Alison Chesley) has an uncanny ability to evoke heavy atmospheres through droning loops and deft finger work on her instrument. Her two albums under the Helen Money moniker range farther stylistically than one could think possible with just one person and one instrument, to the point even of pulling off a cover of The Minutemen’s “Political Song For Michael Jackson To Sing” on 2009’s In Tune. She’s worked with Mono, Anthrax and Russian Circles in the past, and on Nov. 17, she’ll be at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn with Joe Lally of Fugazi, both as a member of his band and as the opening act.
