North Jersey Notes: Killed The Fixtion, Sundown Conspiracy and More!

KILLED THE FIXTION—Newark, NJ

Last week, I received an email regarding a band from Newark, NJ, called Killed The Fixtion. The email came with the band’s latest single, “Pulse,” which really kicked my ass! This was a full-on metal track with a vocal sound reminiscent of Sevendust, one of my favorite metal bands! Where have these guys been hiding?

Killed The Fixtion formed on the streets of Hillside and Newark back in 2009 by a few kids who bonded over their love of heavy music. For the band, this was an outlet to keep them out of trouble rather than hanging out on the streets or with gangs.

Together, they decided to use music to get their message across and get rid of all the negativity in their lives. The aggressiveness of Killed The Fixtion’s music is a prime example of that. The band is made up of singer Nelson Ceron, guitarist Kevin Izquierdo, bassist Robert Asencio, and drummer Abbad Ibn Townsend.

Back in June 2010, Killed The Fixtion released a three-song demo that would create much notoriety for the young band. Realizing that there was a market for the music that they were making, Killed The Fixtion decided to write and record more, while working on a new sound. Their new songwriting process helped the band find who they really were, and that is evident in their latest single, “Pulse.” Give “Pulse” a listen now on facebook.com/ktfnj.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

My new buds from the band Sundown Conspiracy just released their new single, “Invisible,” which is off of the band’s upcoming full-length CD to be released in January of 2012. Digital and hard copies of the single are available on iTunes now! Learn more at reverbnation.com/sundownconspiracy.

How about Sekond Skyn guitarist Eddie Heedles replacing Biohazard guitarist Bobby Hambel in A Pale Horse Named Death? I featured A Pale Horse Named Death a couple of months ago here in “North Jersey Notes.” They’re a supergroup featuring members of Type O Negative and Biohazard, but since Biohazard’s schedule is becoming pretty demanding with their upcoming Nuclear Blast Records release in 2012, Hambel won’t be able to tour with A Pale Horse, leaving the guitarist position vacant. Sekond Skyn’s Eddie Heedles was recruited to fill the vacancy, but don’t worry about his place at the Sekond Skyn table. Eddie will be back with the Sekond Skyn boys once the Pale Horse tour is over. You can catch A Pale Horse Named Death live Dec. 10 at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. For more on A Pale Horse Named Death, log onto apalehorsenameddeath.com.

And finally, I hung out with my bro Don Jamieson from VH-1 Classic’s That Metal Show recently at one of his stand-up gigs, and he was telling me about his acoustic death metal band, Gunfire-N-Sodomy. Don and Gunfire-N-Sodomy bring their show to Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, just in time to kick off the Halloween Hootenanny Weekend on Oct. 28. Besides Don, the best part of his Gunfire-N-Sodomy acoustic death metal band is that Jerry Gaskill of King’s X is playing drums! Now, that is awesome! Don will be returning to Dingbatz two nights later with his TMS co-horts, Eddie Trunk and Jim Florentine, to host a night with Ratt’s Stephen Pearcy. This should be a fun weekend! That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!

Just remember: We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
