Melding love and unity together since 1979 is The English Beat. The sextet, known for their activist message in songs like “Stand Down Margaret,” “How Can You Stand There” and “Smile Train,” fuses soul, reggae, punk and pop into danceable music. Although The English Beat disbanded in 1983, lead singer-guitarist Dave Wakeling went on to recruit musicians from other bands to form, General Public. Then in 2003, The English Beat reunited for a mini-tour in the U.K. Join the band for a groovin’ good time as they perform at Brooklyn’s Bell House on Sept. 2, Maxwell’s in Hoboken on Sept. 3 and Quicksilver Pro in Long Beach, NY on Sept. 4.
