Remember Third/Sister Lovers? That 1978 power pop album released by Big Star? Well, it’s being brought back on March 26 at Barusch College’s Mason Hall by Jody Stephens and Alex Chilton’s friends, including Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Matthew Sweet and M. Ward, just to name a few. Of course, what would the album be without the strings? Luckily, Carl Marsh, who composed the original string arrangements, has been brought up to match everything back up. These musicians have got a lot to live up to when it comes to recreating pieces like “Femme Fatale” and “Nature Boy,” but they’re up to the challenge of giving the album the respect it deserves, and reciprocating its great quality.
