VIKING VIKING VIKING—New Milford, NJ
I scoured the Internet for a North Jersey band to feature this week, and I came across five young bucks out of New Milford, NJ who call themselves Viking Viking Viking. I decided to check them out, because this is North Jersey Notes and I needed to feature a band, plus they weren’t that bad. The tracks that I heard, “Ever Loving Me” and “Do It; You Won’t” were extremely catchy, and fit into what I think the kids are listening to these days. Then again, this music scene is so screwed up, it’s tough to say what the kids are listening to these days. Bottom line is that Viking Viking Viking was pretty good for their age.
The band formed in early 2007 and the members allegedly have lengthy musical and theatrical backgrounds. I’m not sure how that is seeing how young they are, but they seem to know how to create music that people will enjoy. The best part is that they know how to present their music with the highest amount of energy possible at every single one of their shows. Their stage energy helped build their fan base, a fact that makes it really hard to dislike them.
Viking Viking Viking is made up of Matt, who handles the guitar and backing vocals, Brian on lead guitar, Alex on bass and Ryan on drums. They did have some guy named Dan singing, but as I researched Viking Viking Viking, I noticed on their page that they are looking for a new lead singer. So, if you sing and you think you can hang with these youngsters, give them a listen and contact them at reverbnation.com/vikingvikingviking or facebook.com/vikingvikingviking.
NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:
I just read something amazing on Killcode’s blog! It turns out the band will be heading out to the Middle East in April to perform for and to support our troops who are overseas defending our freedom. Personally, I think this is an awesome opportunity. Who the hell is their booking agent? Anyway, more details are on the way. If you’d like to know more, you can log onto myspace.com/killcode.
My bro, John Kosco from Saint Caine recently posted a comment on my Facebook saying, and I quote, “Saint Caine is gonna scare the britches off of bitches this year!” If the new songs that Saint Caine recently posted on their MySpace page are any indication, he might be right! There’s going to be some britchless bitches this year! The new tracks “Sunflower” and “Follow My Lead” rocked. I also felt that John might’ve taken a more alternative rock sound with these new songs. He sounded great as always, but you might need to give them a listen for yourself at myspace.com/saintcaine, and look out for Saint Caine in 2011.
And finally, I know that I mainly feature original bands in this column, but I need to congratulate my Hostel Inc. and Sik Twisted Smile brother Jeff Hardee for landing a new gig with the ultimate Alice In Chains Tribute band, Facelift. Jeff will be the new drummer for Facelift, a tribute band that I really think that Jeff would be perfect for. To find out where Facelift is playing next, log onto faceliftlive.com.
That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!
Just remember: we’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
