Volsung is a Norse hero who is the grandson of Odin. Now think about that for a second, the grandson of the most ball-crushing god to have ever walked the halls Valhalla? Now one can see that it’s a huge claim on the part of Zodiac to have such power. This is especially true in the metal world were chances are, if a band isn’t singing about alcohol or violence they’re singing about dragons or Norse mythology.
Well, Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction are the sort of band that can get away with such verbose claims, hell, they already can stake claim to being a huge influence on the whole “biker look” that so dominated ‘80’s rock and influenced bands like Motley Crue, Rob Zombie and even Alice Cooper.
With such credentials this band continues to deliver on their 10 track onslaught We Are Volsung. The thing that helps make this music so great is the bands sense of humor, the lyrics have a tongue-in-cheek quality that sets them a part from most bands of the past and present. So many artists take themselves so seriously that it detracts from the music because they’re afraid to appear anything less than “br00tal” or “gr1m.” It’s rare to see artists go on for this long and still appear refreshing to new and old fans a like. Everyone who likes rock should give this a go.
