Led by Eric Ronick and Than Luu, experimental rock group Black Gold is a refreshing break from the typical melodramatic music that’s big today; the perfect balance of “not so poppy that I want to vomit” and “not so indie that I feel like an unhip outsider.” Their debut full-length album, Rush, was recorded in the band’s own space in Brooklyn, called Thinman Studios, and has been met with much success since the use of their single “Shine” on the Valentine’s Day movie soundtrack. Black Gold’s tour with Rooney and The Young Veins brings them to the School of Rock in South Hackensack on July 17. 7 p.m. $15.
