My bro, Adam Hirschman of the band Kosmic Daydream, sent me an email last week to tell me about this great new band that the Kosmic ones recently performed with at The Clash Bar in Clifton. The name of the band is Ninth Paradigm, and they’re a Prog-Rock instrumental band out of North Jersey. After reading Adam’s rave about Ninth Paradigm, I have to admit that I grew curious about this mysterious trio, so I gave them a listen. I thought that the band sounded great. The only thing missing was a dynamic vocalist. I know that the boys are selling themselves as an instrumental band, but the music would sound great with a singer, but that’s just my opinion because of the arrangements of the songs. For instance, in songs like “Trinity” and “Numerix,” you can totally hear where vocals would come in and where the big choruses should be. Musically, the band sounds great!
Ninth Paradigm formed in the spring of 2009. Guitarist Zach Salvo, bassist Anthony Alain, and drummer Dominic Puccio initially started getting together only to jam, but the chemistry of these three dynamically driven musicians was undeniable, so they decided to move forward. Ninth Paradigm’s progressive rock and metal influence really sets them apart from the rest of the North Jersey music scene, as there are not many prog-rock bands currently on the scene.
Back in late November 2009, Ninth Paradigm recorded a demo for the sole purpose of getting gigs in any rock club in the NJ/NYC area. The boys urge fans to write them on their MySpace page to request a copy of the CD. According to Adam from Kosmic Daydream, the band can bring it live as well. Adam described them as “very technically astute while maintaining a very cool underlying groove!” Now that is a great endorsement from a fellow musician. North Jersey Notes Updates
Jenna Milano and her gang from Tasting Grace recently shot a music video for the lead single off of their upcoming debut CD, Alter Ego, down at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. The song is called “No Regrets,” and my bud and legendary rock photographer, Mark Weiss was on hand to take a slew of promo pics for the band. The pictures and the video look amazing! Jenna also emailed me a YouTube video of Tasting Grace doing an amazing cover of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” during the band’s video shoot. Look for the video of “No Regrets” and the upcoming debut CD, Alter Ego, to drop sometime this summer. For more info on Tasting Jenna….I mean Tasting Grace, log on to tastinggrace.com.
My bros from Killcode are already back in the studio working their asses off writing and recording yet another new CD. They are so excited about the new songs that they’ve already posted one of them on myspace.com/killcode page. The song is called “Liberated” and might be the best that I’ve heard from the band yet. You can also catch Killcode live down at The Brighton Bar in Long Branch with Black Water Rising and Diablo Royale next Saturday, June 19.
And finally, I recently received an email from my bass brother, Andrew Rohloff from Life Without Warning, and he told me that the band has finally released their debut CD, From Beginning To End, featuring their radio hits “Tu Dios” and “Last Chance.” The CD actually sounds great! Give it a listen now at myspace.com/njlww or buy From Beginning To End on iTunes now because Life Without Warning needs some money to buy some more “peanut butter jelly time, peanut butter jelly time!”
That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424 where you can also let me know where you’re performing next. No cover bands, please! Also, if you haven’t checked out my podcast yet, do it now at northjerseynotes.mypodcast.com!
Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
