Experimental pop band Stardeath and White Dwarfs is currently on tour with The Flaming Lips, and besides sharing the road, the bands also have DNA in common: Stardeath’s Dennis Coyne is the nephew of Lips’ frontman Wayne Coyne. Dennis’ band sounds strikingly similar to his uncle’s, but who can complain about more bizarre acid-fried pop bliss? Stardeath and White Dwarfs will be playing two headlining shows in the NYC area—Mercury Lounge on Monday, Aug. 31 (doors at 7 p.m., tix $10, 21-plus) and Maxwell’s in Hoboken on Tuesday, Sept. 1 (doors at 9 p.m., tix $10, all ages).
