Tattoos are done in private rooms in the back of the shop. Of course, whenever you ask about prices, owners or employees seem to clam up, because they never want to outprice themselves in this now-saturated market. Johann just gave me the standard answer that I get from most shops, “It really depends on the size of the piece. We don’t like to charge by the hour.” Many artists don’t think it’s fair to charge by the hour and I have to agree. They should always charge by the size of the artwork. Some pieces might take days to complete. Can you imagine how much days of work would cost?
I have to admit that I got a really cool vibe from this place. People in the shop were super-friendly, it was clean, and I cannot say more about Johann and Tommy’s artwork. Mean Street Tattoo Studio will be tattooing and showcasing their talents at this year’s New York City Tattoo Convention 2009 down at The Roseland Ballroom from May 15 till May 17.
